Astronomy: Uuki has been interested in astronomy since he
was just a little kid. Starting out with just a casual interest
in the night sky, Uuki has later gotten a little carried
away. Currently he owns three telescopes, the biggest one of
which (an 205 mm Dobsonian) he built himself.
(Click here for pictures and some technical
info). In 1997 Uuki was the WWW-maintainer of Pollux, the astronomy
suborganization at the Helsinki University of Technology, and was
elected as chairman for 1998.
Update: My Dobsonian has now become a
lightweight version!
Bicycling: Uuki likes bicycling. Especially in new
places. Here is a picture of him,
taken in the summer of 1997 when he and Camber made
a trip to
Åland by bike.
Hiking and fishing: Uuki has also loved hiking in the
wilderness since he was a little kid. The same applies to
fishing. The biggest fish Uuki has caught so far is
the 11-kilogram pike he caught from Åland when he was 13 years
old.
Electronics: Uuki thinks he knows a lot about
electronics, but in fact that's not so. But he likes fooling
around with IC's, transistors, capacitors, LED's etc.
Computers: Of course, Uuki is also interested in
computers. He likes programming in C and assembly language. He
is the only member of a software "group" (one
person=group???) called Wack-O Productions. He has
made e.g. the software for CyberDyne
Magazine. Uuki hates Microsoft Windows (registered
trademark of Microsoft Corporation) and likes Linux.
Ice water swimming: In the winter, when the lakes freeze
over, some people still go swimming in a hole in the ice. I
used to think it was something only old, hairy, overweight
people do, but in the autumn of 1997 I discovered this is
untrue. You only have to be crazy to do it.
And I am.
