Information about Damietta
- Lying in the North Delta Damietta Governorate is dividied by River Nile into two parts.
- The Governorate is bounded by the Mediterranean to the north,
Manzala lake to the east and by the Daqahlia Governorate to south and west .
- Damietta is famous for furniture, leathers, textile and sweets industries in
addition to dairy products and rice mills as well as extracting salts, ship building,
sardine and shrimp processing and canning. Also, It produces many agricultural crops such as rice,
date, guava, lemon, water melon and melon.
- Fishing is considered one of the most major activities for the people of Damietta.
It has the biggest fleet at Ezbat El-Bourg for fishing in Mediterranean which
accounts for half of Egypt's fishing fleet.
- Damietta's national Day is celebrated on May 8 every year, marking the day of
sacrifices of people of Damietta and the crushing defeat of the crusaders in 1125 AD.
