Status Quo

My full name is Matti Juhani Öhman and I am a fourth year student at Helsinki University of Technology also known as HUT for short. To be more precise, I am reading Strategy and International Business as major at Department of Industrial Management and Engineering but my interests include computer science as well as physics. At the current pace, I should graduate within one year, but it will probably take a bit more time than that.

Before comming to Otaniemi, Espoo I spent 11 months doing my military service first at Ilmavoimien tekninen koulu in Halli and later at Ilmasotakoulu in Kauhava. At Halli I first had the basic military training but later I was trained to airplane mechanic and finally sent to serve in the squadron (not as a cook...).

Going even further back in time, I went to Vasa övningsskola in Vaasa for 3 years and graduated from the upper secondary school in the spring 1997. It was back there, when I first heard of the Internet and got a user account on Åbo Academi's computer called Orion (orion.abo.fi). The year was 1994, since then a lot has changed... Choosing IB Diploma Programme instead of the national upper secondary school was definately worth all the work. Vaasa was a great place to live and study and the team spirit of our class was unmatched. Everyone was motivated and the standards were set high - this goes for both the students and the excellent staff.

In the prehistoric era before the trip to Vaasa, I pulled through the comprehensive school system in Pietarsaari, a small little town in the west coast of Finland. I was born there in 1978.
