Abstract:

The thesis specifies a method for finding a context-dependent grammar describing a set of strings. The method is based on different kinds of iterative analysis made on the string set, trying this way to find as much information about the strings as possible. The method has been developed to support deciphering the ancient Indus script. In principle, however, it is applicable for analysing any string set with a sensible syntax.
