The Thing
All right, since Volvo pages seem quite popular, I'll write one too.
Here's my 242 -77 on a misty March morning (OK, so it wasn't the
main subject of the photo, I just happened to park it there). You
can't see it too well, but you all know how it looks like anyway.
Hot 1997 update! More B19A performance!
I managed to sell the piece of shit in September after the starter
finally gave up. Got a whopping 1100 FIM for it, too.
I now have a 244DL -81 with automatic transmission (ooh...).
It works, but doesn't have any attitude or memories whatsoever, sigh...
It also has two doors too many to pass as a bachelor sled, so
go check out my main pastime during the summer.
And in 1998...
In March some sob in a Nissan Cherry decided to turn (against a
sign prohibiting just that) in my way - corner to corner collision
at about 20-40 km/h (have no idea, I was braking all the way down
from over 50...). The Nissan was totalled, I drove home. Anyway, the
insurance company wanted to buy the Volvo from me instead of paying
for the repairs, and I didn't object much because the price was good...
no pictures, sorry. I'll leave this page here anyway for historical
purposes; my current daily driver is an '84 Chevy Caprice Classic stw.
And again in 2000...
I bought a $140 244DL for the winter, while I'm figuring out what
to do with the apparently failing transmission in the Chevy.
The story (in Finnish) is updated regularly
in this document. Basically this is a tongue-in-cheek experiment
on how cheap you can drive...
