Welcome to the new Sitkis home site.

I have now updated Sitkis considerably. I suggest you update to the new version, which also imports page numbers and publication types.

Frequently asked questions about Sitkis:

Q: Sitkis gives me an error message when I try to import ISI export files, what is wrong?
A: Check that you exported files 'field tagged'. Then make sure you did not open the file in notepad and save it (that changes the end-of-line characters). You can also try to find out, based on the error message, whether it was a specific article in the export file that caused the problem. If the problems persist, contact the me through e-mail.

Q: How is it possible that Sitkis is completely free?
A: If you figure out how to make money out of this, please let me know. :-)

Q: I really need to use Sitkis to manipulate a large amount of data, but it is too slow!
A: If you are truly devoted, you can utilize a "real" database engine instead of Microsoft Access. If you set up, for instance, IBM DB2 through ODBC, and create all the same tables that are in the MS Access database, Sitkis ought to work considerably faster.

Q: What are the immediate future plans regarding Sitkis?
A: I try to integrate JUNG software package into Sitkis, so that you could in fact draw and browse networks within Sitkis. However, my career as a social scientist has taken up most of my time, and this functionality is unlikely to be available any time soon. If you are in need of some functionality that is not extremely complicated to implement, please contact me.

Q: I want to form a 'genealogy' of a scientific discourse that goes back multiple generations. Is there any way to automatically download information regarding the cited articles from ISI?
A: None that I know of. I suggest you download ALL the articles from a set of journals and then work on that set of data to find out the 'trees' of cross-references.

Q: Why doesn't Sitkis have feature XXX?
A: Let me know and I'll look into it.

Q: I keep getting these error messages in the console window. They have something to do with a configuration file?
A: Working as intended. I implemented a very simple configuration file system to Sitkis, which is intended to remember the database and the folder you are working with. When you start the program for the first time, it gives some error messages. Also, the config file is saved to C-drive root, which is often write protected (yes, I know). If the software works, ignore the error messages.
