Being the gullible man that I am, in the summer of 2000 I took upon the duty of maintain Perl 5.7, the development branch that finally lead into Perl 5.8.0 in July 2002, and 5.8.1 in September 2003. Now as of August 2003 I'm retired from all that and Rafael Garcia-Suarez is in charge of the 5.9 development branch, Nicholas Clark of the 5.8 maintenance branch, and Rafael Garcia-Suarez also of the 5.6 maintenance branch. If you want to follow the Perl 5 development, abandon all hope.

I gave an introductory Perl course at the Computer Science Department of the University of Helsinki in the fall of 1999. The course material is available for personal use, and the official homepage of the course might still be online.
