Rejected papers

You may wonder, why anyone would want to show this list to the whole world. My reason is that, at times, I teach and coach mainly Master's degree students in some fundamental researcher's skills: literature research, scientific writing and presenting one's research at a conference. In connection to every course I teach, one important thing, which I wish students to learn, is what to do when that inevitable "no go" feedback comes from a conference's chairperson or a journal's editor. Therefore I intend to build this list into one resource for our students: ideas for what to do with a rejected paper.

  1. Zhao, Shushan ; Addams-Moring, Ronja ; Kekkonen, Markku: How to Meet Mobile Emergency Announcement Systems Requirements in 3G Systems: a Proposition. Rejected by: IEEE IAW 2005, West Point, with comments of the type "good paper but does not belong here".
Course of action: was submitted with minor changes to IASTED's CCN conference and accepted.

  2. Rajaniemi, Anssi ; Addams-Moring, Ronja ; Virtanen, Teemupekka: Enhancements for the Security Part of the Finnish Computer Driving Licence. Rejected by: IFIP SEC 2004.
Course of action: By the time the rejection e-mail arrived, there had been substantial developments in the contents of both the Finnish Computer Driving Licence (FCDL) and the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), which rendered the paper fairly obsolete. So this time around we had to give up.
